HISTORY

Main — History
Almost two centuries of agricultural change: from the horse-drawn harvester to tractors powered by 6-cylinder engines with power output up to 310 hp.
1831
At the age of 21, Cyrus McCormick inherited his father’s blueprints of the horse-drawn harvester. Soon he improved and patented his project. This invention revolutionized American agriculture and secured the nickname “King of Harvesters” for Cyrus.
Researchers estimate that McCormick’s invention increased labor productivity by 500% when harvesting wheat and by 250% when harvesting corn.
Cyrus McCormick opened a factory in Chicago. This production facility became the biggest agricultural equipment manufacturer in the US. The output stood at 500 machines per year.
1847
1902
The competition became so intense that this period is often called the “Combine Harvester Wars Era”. The main manufacturers, McCormick Machine and Deering Company, joined forces to expand into the overseas markets. Such was the founding of the International Harvester company.
The new giant controlled almost 85% of combine harvester production in the US. The company started opening factories abroad: in Russia, Canada, UK and others.
The joint company rolled out its first product - the International tractor. This novelty was powered by a 20 hp gasoline engine.
1906
International Harvester bought Whitley Hall in Doncaster, UK. Later this place became the head office of McCormick company.
1915
Production of Farmall M series tractors began. It was based on a modular design. Gasoline and distillate fuel versions were manufactured.
It was McCormick that made red tractors fashionable. Earlier, such equipment was painted gray-blue. The new color even got its name - Farmall Red - from the tractor series built by the company.
PAINT THE TRACTOR
There were many different models of Farmall tractors - A, B, C, F and others. But it was model M that turned out to be the most popular one among the “letter series”. Farmall M was manufactured for almost 15 years, up until 1953.
1939
On September 13, 1949, tractor production began at the factory in Doncaster, UK. The first to leave the production line were the Farmall M series tractors.
1949
Tractor production began in France. In the town of Saint-Dizier, a new model was launched - FC Farmall.
1951
The first tractors with a synchromesh gearbox were sold. The advertisement said that the new box was so easy to use that the farmer could just “set it and forget it”.
1970
1974
At 9 a.m. on February 1, 1947, the five-millionth tractor rolled from the assembly line on the company’s US factory. However, shortly after that McCormick tractor production was brought to a halt.
Agro Tractors Group buys the brand McCormick, its tractor manufacturing facilities and all technological developments.
2000
2002
After a 30 years’ interruption, McCormick tractor production was restarted at the legendary Doncaster factory in the UK.
New models entered production. Models MC115, Power6, MTX 200 and others were made available to buyers.
2005
A special series of machines named McCormick Diamond Edition was manufactured. The new series was unique - only 60 machines were produced.
The number of these silvery tractors is not a coincidence: they were produced to mark the 60th anniversary of the company’s Doncaster factory.
2013
The McCormick X7 series was revealed for the first time. The entire design was developed by Agro Tractors, and the machines were equipped with the ZF gearbox. A bit later a model with a continuously variable transmission was demonstrated in Paris. This was the start of a new era.
The XTractor project began. It was a documentary reality show that featured tractors traveling over 8 thousand kilometers across Australia.
2015
A high-performance X8 VT-Drive series operating at up to 310 hp was created.
The jury of «Tractor of the year» recognized McCormick X6.4 VT-Drive with a continuously variable transmission as «The best universal tractor of the year».
2016
Production facilities in the UK and France were closed. A new branch of Agro Tractors opened in Spain.
2017
Later, in 2019, a branch opened in France, and another one opened in Germany in 2021.
XTractor was continued in South Africa. Over the course of 50 days, the reality show participants covered a route of 8000 km.
2018
McCormick X7.624 Stage V was revealed. The hood and the roof design was carried over from X8 VT-Drive, the flagship model. 12 LED lights are integrated into the roof.
The new model featured a 6-cylinder Stage V engine. Thanks to positioning the cabin on a durable chassis, the noise and vibration level is significantly reduced.
2019
McCormick continues to evolve. Buyers can choose from a variety of machines ranging from 43 to 310 hp. New models, such as XB VT-Drive, X7.6, X6.4 VT-Drive and P6 Drive have been launched. All models are outfitted with the Stage V engine.
